526 FXUS62 KFFC 042340 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 740 PM EDT Thu Jun 4 2026 ...New 00Z Aviation Discussion... .KEY MESSAGES... - Dry and seasonable conditions through at the end of the week. - Diurnally driven showers and storms return Sunday and continue through the middle of next week. && .SHORT TERM... (This afternoon through Friday) Issued at 150 PM EDT Thu Jun 4 2026 Highs in the mid to low 80s with relative humidity falling into the upper 40's this afternoon. As a result pleasant weather is expected to continue under high pressure. Winds have shifted around to the SE and eased to less than 8 mph and should be in that range for the rest of the day before becoming light and variable during the overnight hours. Another pleasant day tomorrow, with temperatures heating into the mid 80s as some of that southeast summer experience starts to filter back in. Scattered clouds forming during the afternoon might provide some shade, but with dry conditions holding on for a few more days we're not particularly concerned about the heat. && .LONG TERM... (Saturday morning through next Wednesday) Issued at 150 PM EDT Thu Jun 4 2026 The extended period will start with one more dry day across north and central Georgia on Saturday. As a shortwave in the northern stream quickly moves across the Midwest and Great Lakes Region, it will cause the upper level ridge to flatten as it continues eastward towards the Atlantic. By Saturday morning, the associated surface high will move offshore into the western Atlantic. Gulf moisture will begin to work its way back into the forecast area, as a result. Low temperatures on Saturday will reflect the increasing dewpoints, starting the morning in the low to mid 60s. The gradual warming trend from the late week will continue on Saturday, with high temperatures mainly in the mid 80s in north Georgia and upper 80s by Saturday afternoon. PoPs on Saturday are forecast to be 5% or less across the area. On Sunday, a high amplitude mid to upper level pattern will set up with troughing extending through the Great Plains and another ridge extending from the northern Gulf towards the upper Midwest. Strong southwesterly flow between these two features will bring resurgent moisture and shortwave disturbances into Mississippi and Alabama. While widespread rain chances will remain to the west of the forecast area, scattered diurnally driven thunderstorms are expected to return on Sunday amid the increasing moisture and warm temperatures. PoPs on Sunday will be highest to the north of I-85, ranging from 20-40%. Rain chances will be greater on Monday and Tuesday (40-60%) as the aforementioned trough lifts northeast and deeper moisture overspreads Georgia, though should still be diurnally enhanced with the greatest coverage of storms in the afternoon and early evening. High temperatures from Sunday through the end of the period are largely expected to be in the 80s each day, while morning lows will continue to climb into the upper 60s to low 70s by early next week as atmospheric moisture increases. More uncertainty arrives late Tuesday into Wednesday, with the possibility of surface high pressure under the ridge dropping southward through New England towards the Mid-Atlantic. This could send a backdoor front from northeast to southwest through the area. Model guidance is coming into better agreement on the presence of the high, but remains highly consistent with respect to the timing and track of its motion. This should begin to come into better focus in the coming days. && .AVIATION...
