605 FXUS62 KFFC 060622 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 222 AM EDT Sat Jun 6 2026 ...Morning Area Forecast Discussion... .KEY MESSAGES... - Dry weather and seasonal temperatures continue today. - Daily afternoon showers and thunderstorm chances return Sunday continue through most of next week. && .SHORT TERM... (Today through Sunday) Issued at 221 AM EDT Sat Jun 6 2026 Upper ridging will begin to dampen today as the first of a few shortwave troughs passes well to our north across the Great Lakes Region. Additionally, high pressure at the surface will continue to shift eastward with southerly flow bringing a gradual return of moisture into the area. At least for today (Saturday), we can expect one more dry and warm weather day for all of North and Central Georgia. But a pattern shift is on the horizon starting Sunday. Another shortwave will lift northeastward across the Mid-MS Valley. This will provide just enough support for showers and thunderstorms to return to parts of Northern Georgia Sunday afternoon. Chances will further increase in coverage by Monday -- discussed in the long term below. As far as temperatures go, it's going to feel a lot more like summer. Forecast highs in the 80s -- perhaps reaching the low 90s across far south-central Georgia -- and forecast lows in the 60s to low 70s. Dewpoints will steadily rise back into the mid/upper 60s by Sunday which will make it feel much more muggy outdoors. Take advantage to the pleasant weather while you can! && .LONG TERM... (Sunday night through Friday) Issued at 221 AM EDT Sat Jun 6 2026 Southerly flow is back by the start of the extended periods with showers and thunderstorms back in the forecast. The ridge that kept us dry over the past few days will have moved off shore and become more of a Bermuda ridge by Sun night/Mon morning. Looking for diurnally driven showers and thunderstorms each afternoon Mon through Thu. Instability through day 7 stays fairly marginal with the best instability staying west of the state. One main difference with this new Bermuda ridge is there will be a large/strong upper level ridge centered over the NE Gulf keeping things capped across region. This combined with the lack of instability were not expecting much in the way of severe weather over the next 7 days. Please keep in mind that any storm in Georgia during the summer is capable of briefly reaching severe thresholds so stay weather aware. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 107 AM EDT Sat Jun 6 2026 VFR at all sites through the period. High cirrus will persist with Cu 4-6kft developing after 15z.
