Shower and thunderstorm chances return early next week. Deep layer ridging over the southeastern CONUS remains in place through Saturday. Mostly clear skies expected, although there will be periods of mainly thin cirrus. Highs will be near to a little above normal today with a small increase on Saturday. Lows will rise to a few degrees above normal. Dewpoints will be below usual values for this time of year keeping humidity in check. Shortwaves move east early next week breaking down the ridge over the Southeast. An upper low develops over the Great Lakes and drops into the Mid Atlantic by Thursday. This helps push a backdoor cold front into the area by Monday with a weak Cold Air Damming high moving in on Tuesday. The backdoor front washes out on Wednesday with the center of the surface high dropping south into the Carolinas with a moderating air mass. This leads to a continued slow warming trend through Monday, then cooling below normal on Tuesday. A warming trend returns through Thursday with 90s possible by the end of the period. Chances of mainly diurnal convection increase through Tuesday then remain nearly steady through Thursday. && .AVIATION /06Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/... At KCLT and elsewhere: Expect dry, VFR conditions at the TAF sites through the period. There will be some mountain valley fog, but it should remain away from KAVL.
