445 FXUS65 KVEF 050432 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 932 PM PDT Thu Jun 4 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... * Quiet weather and above-normal temperatures continue through the end of the work week. * Expect increasing southwest winds and cooling temperatures this weekend and into next week. && .DISCUSSION...Today through Wednesday. Ridging over the Desert Southwest will continue over the next couple of days thanks to a building high pressure over the southeastern Pacific Ocean. As a result, afternoon high temperatures will continue to rise to around 10 degrees above seasonal normals today and Friday. Widespread Moderate Heat Risk today and Friday, with pockets of Major Heat Risk in the Las Vegas Valley, Colorado River Valley, and Death Valley. Opted out of an Extreme Heat Warning due to the cool off overnight and borderline nature of this heat. Regardless, those spending time outdoors are encouraged to drink water before they are thirsty and take frequent breaks in the shade and air conditioning. A closed area of low pressure will push into the Pacific Northwest on Saturday, resulting in an elongated trough along the western CONUS. This trough will bring with it strong gusty southwest winds Saturday through Sunday, with speeds generally 20 to 25 mph and gusts around 35 mph. Expect stronger speeds in the higher terrain. Due to the combination of gusty winds and dry conditions, a Fire Weather Watch is in effect for southern Nevada and northwestern Arizona. See the FIRE WEATHER section below for more information. Along with gusty winds, this trough will help to cool temperatures back toward seasonal normals. Generalized troughing will persist through the next work week, with a modest uptick in moisture on Tuesday. That said, negligible chances of precipitation at this time. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 06Z Forecast Package...Southwest winds will remain around 8-10KT through much of the night before becoming light and variable early Friday morning.
