618 FXUS65 KVEF 051110 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 410 AM PDT Fri Jun 5 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... * Quiet weather and above-normal temperatures continue through the end of the work week. * Expect increasing southwest winds and cooling temperatures this weekend and into next week. && .DISCUSSION...Today through Thursday. Ridging will remain in place through today, bringing another day of temperatures around 10 degrees above normal. Widespread areas of Moderate Heat Risk, with pockets of Major Heat Risk in the Las Vegas Valley, Colorado River Valley, and Death Valley. We will start to see cooling temperatures beginning Saturday as an area of low pressure pushes into the Pacific NW, resulting in an elongated trough along the western US. The main impact from this trough will be increasing southwest winds with speeds generally 20 to 25 mph with gusts to around 35 mph, with stronger winds in the higher terrain. Due to the combination of strong gusty winds, low relative humidity, and critical fuels, a Fire Weather Watch has been issued for southern Nevada and northwestern Arizona. Winds will begin to subside Sunday over southern Nevada, but remain gusty across portions of northwest Arizona. Temperatures will cool an additional 4 to 7 degrees Sunday putting temperatures close to normal for this time of year. A second piece of energy is expected to help deepen the trough Monday and Tuesday helping to once again increasing wind speeds and keep the ongoing fire weather danger in place. Temperatures will also continue to cool with highs on Tuesday and Wednesday potentially a few degrees below normal. Generalized troughing will persist through the next work week, with a modest uptick in moisture on Tuesday. That said, negligible chances of precipitation at this time. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Light and variable winds will increase slightly and settle in from the south-southeast later this morning/early this afternoon. These south-southeasterly winds will continue through mid-afternoon when 10 to 15 knot southwesterly winds will pick up, accompanied by gusts to around 20 knots. These breezy southwesterly winds will continue into the evening hours, with a brief lull around sunset. Wind gusts will drop off during the overnight hours, with winds maintaining a southwesterly direction. Breezy southwesterly winds will pick back up on Saturday morning. VFR conditions will persist through the TAF period with no operationally significant cloud cover. Temperatures will climb over 100 degrees again Friday 19Z through 03Z, with a high temperature around 106 degrees. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Winds will remain relatively light, following typical diurnal directional patterns through later this morning when breezy southerly to southwesterly winds will pick up. These breezy southerly winds will continue into the evening hours, before dropping off overnight. The exception will be the western Mojave Desert, including KDAG, where winds will favor a more westerly direction this afternoon and evening. VFR conditions will persist through the TAF period with no operationally significant cloud cover. && .FIRE WEATHER...Widespread southwest winds between 15 and 25 mph expected on Saturday, with gusts near 35 mph. Afternoon relative humidities will range between 5 and 10 percent, with up to 15 percent in the higher elevations of southern Nevada and northwestern Arizona. Combined with critical fuels, a Fire Weather Watch has been issued for Arizona Zones 101 and 102 and Nevada Zones 461, 462, 465, and 466 on Saturday... with the Arizona Zones persisting into Sunday.
