Peak gusts of 25-30 mph can be expected, with humidity levels dropping to around 15% in most areas. The Red Flag Warning has been issued and remains in effect for areas expected to have the combination of breezy winds and lowest humidity, which also coincides with locations that have experienced the least precipitation and limited green-up this spring. Isolated thunderstorms can be expected this afternoon into early evening across the forecast area, with most producing gusty outflow winds to 30-50 mph but only light rain. Fire weather conditions will ease this evening as humidities slowly improve. LONG TERM DISCUSSION...Sunday through Wednesday... Winds decrease over most of the plains for Sunday, so despite even warmer temperatures and lower humidities, we do not anticipate any highlights at this time. Meanwhile, mountain areas will see increasing winds and dryness, but fuels there are labeled as mostly not critical. Monday will see some cooling and bump in humidity readings. More widespread and potentially extremely critical fire weather conditions will develop by Tuesday. Wind gusts of 30-40 mph will combine with record heat and 6-12% humidity over most of the forecast area. Those conditions could last into Wednesday, before more significant cooling and moistening occurs late next week. The HDWI has >80% chance of exceeding the 90th percentile for most of the lower elevations for Tuesday, and near 50% chance of exceeding the 95th percentile over some of the I-25 Corridor and Plains. Those decrease slightly by Wednesday, however, as some of the latest guidance offers up a little cooling and lighter winds.
