The lingering influence from a ridge of surface high pressure centered off the coast of SC/GA will maintain a fairly dry airmass across northern AL today, with MinRH values in the 40-50% range. However, as the high retreats eastward into the Atlantic, a gradual increase in southerly flow in the low-levels will occur tonight, allowing a very moist/tropical airmass to return to the region early Sunday morning. This will be accompanied by an initial band of rain and some embedded thunderstorms during the early morning hours, followed by development of numerous- widespread thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon as the local airmass destabilizes with diurnal warming. Smoke dispersion will be in the generally good category today (with mixing heights of 6000-7000 ft and transport winds around 10 MPH), but will fall into the fair category tomorrow due to an abundant coverage of low clouds and precipitation. In the extended portion of the forecast, it appears as if a wet and stormy weather pattern will continue through Tuesday, with a return to more scattered afternoon/evening showers and storms expected Wednesday-Friday. Fog potential over the next few days: Patchy, locally dense fog may occur near large bodies of water early this morning. Conditions will become more favorable for development of fog on Sunday/Monday mornings (especially in locations that receive wetting rainfall). Potential for Red Flag Conditions: None at this time.
