Near critical to critical fire weather conditions are possible this weekend across Fire Weather Zone 204, due to well above average temperatures, gusty winds, and low relative humidity. Temperatures are expected to climb nearly 10 to 20 degrees above average, bringing humidity values around 20 percent or less. Additionally, sustained southeast winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts up to 40 mph. Humidity is expected to recover around 60 to 70 percent overnight across western Nebraska, with southerly wind gusts up to 25 mph throughout the night. By Sunday, temperatures remain above average, with southerly winds gusting up to 40 mph. Humidity values are again expected to remain low across western Nebraska, keeping near critical to critical concerns. Additional fire weather headlines may be needed, if the forecast remains on track. Looking ahead to next week, hot temperatures are expected Tuesday and Wednesday, potentially into Thursday, with highs in the 90s expected and highs in the lower 100s possible. These high temperatures are expected to bring low humidity across the region. Breezy conditions are expected each day, which combined with the high temperatures may quickly deplete any recent moisture. This may bring near daily fire weather concerns starting Tuesday, potentially lasting into Thursday.
