Through 8 pm, widely scattered showers with an occasional embedded thunderstorm will wax and wane across the waters of the Florida Keys, especially the SE Gulf, south-central Straits of Florida, and the nearshore waters mainly north of the Island Chain. Showers are moving south southwest at near 10 knots. Mariners encountering the stronger activity may observe wind gusts of 25 to 30 knots, a few lightning strikes, and reduced visibility in heavy downpours. Island communities of the Lower Keys, especially near and including Key West can expect to receive a few hundredths to up to a quarter of an inch of rainfall with locally higher amounts in excess of a quarter of an inch possible. $$ MJV
