.DISCUSSION...



Isolated to scattered afternoon thunderstorms are possible over 

portions of northeastern SD with lightning being a threat, though 

some gusty winds up to 60 mph could occur in a storm or two. Hail up 

to an inch could also occur. 



Northwesterly wind gust up to 20 mph will calm down and turn 

overnight to become southeasterly. These southeasterly winds will be 

increasing in strength Saturday, with sustained winds of 20 to 30 

and gusts of 35 to 45 mph over areas west of the James River valley. 

Over and east of the James River Valley will see sustained winds of 

10 to 20 mph and gust of 15 to 30 mph. Minimum relative humidity 

values are on tract to be just below 30 percent in some areas west 

of the Missouri River with other areas above 30 percent west of the 

James River. Areas to the east will be above 40 to 45 percent. 

Saturday the minimum relative humidities look to fall over 

northeastern South Dakota, though most areas over central and 

northeastern South Dakota will stay above 30 percent.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...



Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,

and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the

probability of a fast moving fire is low.  Outdoor burning under

these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety

precautions, but should be monitored.





The outlook for Saturday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index

will reach the moderate category.
